Look at that: layers of mortadella, creamy Havarti, and fresh alfalfa sprouts stacked on golden keto bread — a proper deli sandwich that’s completely keto. Think of it as a next-level, low-carb take on the classic ham and cheese (mortadella is the smooth Italian cousin of ham). The secret is the bread: it’s built on our Ultimate Keto Loaf, so you get the full deli-sandwich experience at around 4–6g net carbs instead of the 40–50g you’d get from ciabatta.
Ingredients
Makes 1 sandwich.
- 2 slices Ultimate Keto Loaf — our signature keto bread, from the Keto Pantry.
- 4–5 slices mortadella.
- 1 slice Havarti cheese.
- A handful of alfalfa sprouts.
- Mayonnaise — to spread.
- Butter — optional, if you want a crisp toasted sandwich.
How to make it
- 1. Spread the mayo. Spread mayonnaise on the inner sides of both slices of Ultimate Keto Loaf.
- 2. Layer it up. Stack the mortadella, Havarti, and alfalfa sprouts between the two slices.
- 3. (Optional) Make it crisp. Spread butter on the outer surfaces of the top and bottom slices.
- 4. Pan-sear or air-fry. Cook until the bread is golden and the Havarti softens — a few minutes per side in a pan, or a quick crisp in the air fryer. Prefer it cold? Skip this step and serve as-is.
- 5. Slice & serve. Cut and enjoy — warm and crisp, or cold and fresh.
⚠ A couple of things to watch
- Sweet-cured deli meats — some cold cuts have added sugar. Mortadella is usually fine; just glance at the label.
- Swapping in regular bread — the Ultimate Keto Loaf is what keeps this keto; ordinary bread or ciabatta would undo it.
- “Light” or sweet mayo — some have added sugar or starch; a plain full-fat mayo is the keto choice.
Tips & swaps
- Air fryer is easiest: buttered and air-fried, the loaf crisps up beautifully with no flipping.
- Add richness: a few slices of avocado or a thin tomato slice work beautifully.
- Make it heartier: a fried egg on top turns this into a full keto breakfast.
- Meal-prep friendly: keep the components ready and assemble fresh so the loaf stays crisp.
